I originally launched this newsletter just prior to the 2020 elections, and as you’re likely well aware, much has changed since then. I decided not to move forward with the newsletter at that time, as I had a lot on my plate.
I still do (have a lot on my plate), but after today’s tone-deaf, disconnected speech about COVID booster shots from President Joe Biden while thousands of Americans fear death and uncertainty in Afghanistan after they were stranded there by his administration, I felt that now is as good a time as ever to revive it.
I, like millions of other Americans, am not a fan of Biden or his politics. However, unfortunately, I think we’ve grown used to his bland, incompetence-ridden speeches and responses to various issues facing America, but today was different.
Today, in the midst of one of the most serious and impactful foreign policy disasters in U.S. history, the American president not only attempted to distract from the situation by talking about COVID-19 booster shots, but he also moved away from that podium after his speech with great speed, clearly in an effort to avoid the inevitable downpour of questions about Afghanistan that every reporter in that room wanted to — rightfully — ask.
At the same time that Biden spoke to a nation about a topic that presumably most do not particularly care about at the moment (COVID), video footage emerged from Kabul showing Taliban terrorists firing off guns and other scenes of general chaos and fear as people scramble to find a way out of the war-ravaged country.
Biden’s response? Well, you’ll soon be able to get your third COVID-19 shot. Oh, and Republican governors, like Gov. Ron DeSantis, are evil.
That’s it. That’s practically all the president had to say.
Can you imagine, for even a fleeting moment, that you’re trapped in Afghanistan and your president apparently doesn’t give a single shit about your safety and well-being?
Or imagine watching Biden’s speech as a son, daughter, husband, wife, or parent of an American citizen trapped in the Taliban’s newest terrorist playground.
I genuinely feel great sympathy for them, especially today, as Biden clearly signaled that he’s looking the other way on this one.
What about Vice President Kamala Harris? Where the hell is she? Since the Afghanistan debacle erupted, she’s literally not appeared once in public. Not once.
Right now, it truly feels as if nobody is leading this great nation. I, along with many others, feel as though our commander in chief has absolutely abandoned American citizens abroad, and that should make anyone sick to their stomach.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Like him or not, I can absolutely guarantee if Donald Trump was at the helm, not a single American would be left behind and he certainly wouldn’t be making speeches about COVID-19 vaccines while Americans remain in true danger. Honest Democrats even know that’s a true statement.
Time will tell how this disaster ends up in the history books, but it’s inevitable that it will become much worse before it gets better. The longer Americans — and our Afghan allies — are trapped in Afghanistan, the more opportunities exist for truly heartbreaking news reports to emerge.
